Ingredients

1 eating apples, peeled, cored and finely chopped 1 tbsp of low calorie granulated sugar such as Splenda
For the biscuit base 100g/4oz low-fat spread 1 tbsp low calorie granulated sugar 100g /4oz muesli with no added sugar 50g /2oz plain flour 50g /2oz rolled oats 1 medium egg, beaten
Put the diced apples into a small pan, add one tablespoon (15ml) of water and simmer gently until the apples are tender. Stir in the sugar and leave aside. Preheat oven to 180°C/350°F/Gas Mark four. Lightly grease an 18cm x 28cm (7" x 11 ") shallow tin. Melt the low-fat spread in a pan and stir in the sugar. Add the muesli, flour, oats and beaten egg and mix well until combined. Drain the apples and stir the pieces into the mixture before transferring to the prepared tin. Spread into an even layer and press down well. Cook for 25-30 minutes until browned. Mark into 16 bars with a sharp knife but leave to cool before turning out of the tin.
