Leg Tone Up
|
Hi Although I am doing ok on the Online Slimming Club and I am losing weight very steadily with the help of a treadmill I am concerned because I have quiet large thighs & calves and I would like to know what is the best exercise I can do to tone my legs and reduce their size. Thanks
Thank you for your e-mail.
It is very good that you are continuing to lose weight steadily, this is always the best way to lose weight and by doing work on the treadmill you will continue to lose weight- but if you can try other cardiovascular exercises/equipment like the exercise bikes, steppers, x-trainers and rowers. This will vary your workout as your body can get use to a certain workout pattern and machine and then you may plateau in weight. In relation to your thigh and calf size then you may find it hard to lose weight from these areas as certain people are pre-disposed in their body types, (I for example have broad shoulders but smaller arms even though I work these areas of the body for the same duration when I go to the gym), this said, your best bet is to keep VARYING your cardiovascular exercises to help lose the weight then to tone these muscles BUT lose the weight first then tone them. The best gym exercises to do for your thighs are thigh/leg extensions, leg presses and hip adductors/abductors but remember to do a smaller weight with higher reps e.g a 50lb weight for 2x15-20 reps. The best gym exercises for your calves are the leg press and calf raise. Other leg exercises that may help are squats, lunges and hamstring curls. These will help to tone the underlying muscle making it feel firmer.
Please write back if you need more help in the execution of these exercises- but try and vary your exercise in the gym or at home and you should find it easier to lose weight around those 'hard' areas.
Good luck
Matt.
