Weight Loss Advice

Question:
I have just over two stone to lose. At home I have a stepper, strider. step box, abs frame and a rowing machine. I tend to do 20 mins on the rower, 20 mins on the strider, 10 mins on the stepper and 120 on the abs frame. I do this 5 days a week. I eat the right amount and still no weight comes off. My motivation has gone.

Please could you give me any advice. Thank you.

Answer:
Hi Liz - quite a tricky one this as I can't see how hard you are working out so I am going to ask you a few questions that you can reply to and I will give my advice and suggestions from there.

Firstly - when you workout do you find yourself sweating, e.g. how hard do you push yourself?

Secondly - on your machines are there calorie counters and/or heart rate monitors? If so what are the readings at the end of the workout on each machine? Thirdly- Do you find usually that it is easy or hard for you to either put weight on or take it off? And have you ever had thyroid problems?

As I say I will be able to tell more from your answers to the above questions. However what I can suggest now is to stop the 5 days a week cycle and revert to a day on/day off cycle so you will do the exercises only 3 or 4 times a week; doing it this way will allow your body to recover and may aid you to lose weight as some people who over train suffer the same symptoms as those who don't train enough.

Also its best if you go from one machine to another as quick as possible and not rest in between to keep the heart rate in your training zone. My other suggestions are not using the AB frame (I hate those things!!!) instead do normal crunches or sit-ups just using your body- you will find this works much better as the AB frame does a lot of work for you.

My last suggestion is to maybe vary your workouts- have you got a video/DVD at home? If so, maybe buy a workout video (there are hundreds to choose from and some are very cheap) as this is an underrated good way of burning fat and will vary the workout from the norm.

Please reply and I will be able to offer you more advice.
